Every year since 2014, the IUF, together with its affiliates organized days of action for fast food workers to highlight the ongoing struggle to build trade union power in the sector.Â
In order to improve the working conditions for all workers, hence the Global Week of Action for Fast Food Workers on November 14th -20th 2022 to call for more organizing and an end to widespread union busting in the sector
The IUF affiliate unions of fast food workers met in Geneva earlier this year, the goal was clear: expand the global campaign to ensure safe workplaces for all fast food workers, now a fundamental principle and right at work according to the ILO
Starbucks workers in the United States have won over 250 union election across the country despite serious resistance from the company; to give just one example: over 120 workers have been fired because of union activity
Nabretta Hardin, union activist and Starbucks worker in the US, stated, “We want a union because we want a say when the company plans to add or take things that affect our livelihood. We demand respect and deserve to be heard by a company that we work so hard for.â€
On this note, the leadership of National Union of Hotels and Personal Services Workers with its members joined the world in marking the Global Week of Action for Fast Food Workers at the union Secretariat in Gwagwalada FCT, Abuja, Nigeria Â
